The Shelton-Caldwell Fellows Scholarship, an intensive leadership development and scholarship program, recognizes the importance of nurturing leadership and personal growth during the undergraduate years. NC State first year students will be selected through a process that includes a written application and interviews. Students apply through the Caldwell Fellows Program during their application process. The Shelton Leadership Center selects one of the Caldwell Fellows to receive the Shelton-Caldwell Scholarship. To be eligible, an applicant must be a full-time first year student at NC State University with a GPA of 3.25 or greater and meet the program’s selection criteria.
Students will receive a renewable academic award valued at $3,500 for their sophomore, junior and senior years and have access to additional funding, up to $1,500 annually, to support participation in enrichment opportunities.
Shelton Leadership Scholars receive automatic membership in the Caldwell Fellows Program that stresses the importance of leadership and personal growth and provides a range of enhancement opportunities beyond what the student receives through the Caldwell Fellows Program.
As part of the Caldwell Fellows Program, students will have significant personal growth experiences (i.e. study abroad or the Fellows Wilderness Experience), service opportunities, a career internship, a leadership and ethics course, a retreat and other activities designed by and with students and program alumni. Annual enrichment funds up to $1,500 are available for student leadership enrichment experiences.
The selection process for the academic year begins in November as educational materials on the Shelton-Caldwell Fellows Scholarship Program are presented at informational meetings and through the website. Freshmen who meet the eligibility requirements can submit an application as part of the Caldwell Fellows selection process that will be available online. Applications are due at a time designated by the Caldwell Fellows Program. Applicants will be notified by the end of January each year if they have been selected for a finalist interview.
