Shelton Challenge Financial Assistance

Financial assistance applications are included in the Challenge application.

Please indicate on the application if the student’s attendance is dependent upon receiving a scholarship. Applicants should meet the following requirements:

1. Entering ninth to twelfth grade
2. GPA of 3.0 or higher
3. Previous leadership experience in clubs or other organizations
4. Family financial need.

The student’s application must be reviewed and accepted prior to being considered for financial assistance. This means the applicant will need to have sent in the completed application, two reference letters, and financial assistance forms. A non-refundable deposit of a $25 program fee will be requested upon receipt of a scholarship in lieu of the regular $100 deposit required of accepted applicants.

Please make checks payable to “Shelton Challenge.” Please send the check to:

Shelton Leadership Center
NC State University
Campus Box 7133
Raleigh, NC 27695-7133.

Financial assistance applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Scholarship award amounts vary from $150 to $725 and are dependent on the criteria listed above. A financial commitment will be required to cover any costs not covered by the amount of financial assistance awarded. These costs may include: the remainder of tuition, clothing needs for the week, transportation to and from the program, optional spending money, and any other extra needs.

Shelton Challenge financial assistance is made possible by gifts from individuals and corporate and non-profit sponsors.

As we reflect on #BlackHistoryMonth and our cornerstone values, we recognize that a diversity of experiences and backgrounds are key to our shared success. Thank you to leaders of @NCSUWomensCtr, @ncsuaacc, & Black Male Initiative who shared perspectives! youtu.be/StssC-itpyg

We had a packed last day in London! Half of us visited the @zsllondonzoo and got a behind the scenes tour from alumna Dr. Guthrie. Others visited @RCT Windsor Castle and then we wrapped at @TheLondonEye with gorgeous views. It has been a life changing and transformative week! pic.twitter.com/w5gVwIkHJx

Today we had the incredible opportunity to visit @UKParliament and meet Lord Chris Smith, MP for 22 yrs and the person responsible for making museums free for all. He was the first MP to come out as gay in 1984. It was a privilege and honor to spend time with him. #SheltonAbroad pic.twitter.com/gz3HAdZV9s
