Dr. Deborah Acker currently serves as the Director for the Shelton Leadership Center with primary responsibilities for sustaining the department through quality programming, leading the board of advisors, fund development, and special projects related to grants and contracts. She is a teaching instructor in University College, as well as an Affiliate Graduate Faculty in Comparative Biomedical Sciences. As a senior leader, she has successfully collaborated with university faculty, staff and administrators across disciplines to enhance student success as leaders within their field of studies, resulting in current programs, research, courses and minors. Over the span of her professional career, her expertise focuses on the development and training of leadership competencies including meaningful group work, effective teams, decision-making, incorporation of intentional values-based attributes when leading others (integrity, diversity, social responsibility, and compassion), and developing a global mindset.  

These efforts have resulted in more than 25+ years of sustainable programs, courses, and minors to advance generational leaders.  As a senior leader, she has successfully collaborated with university faculty, staff and administrators across disciplines to enhance student success as leaders within their field of studies, resulting in current programs, research, courses and minors. Her most recent success in Spring 2020 was launching an undergraduate minor, Global Leadership and Team Decision Making, that involved a semester experience in multiple countries (Czech Republic, England, Austria, France and Germany). Students were taught by NC State faculty, as well, faculty from partnering universities.
