The Shelton Leadership Center offers scholarships through our programs as well as affiliated scholarships managed by campus partners.

How to Apply

Students can apply for most Shelton Leadership Center scholarships through Pack ASSIST, NC State’s one-stop scholarship application portal. Admitted and returning students can access Pack ASSIST. 

Scholarship application requirements and due dates vary. Please check program webpages and PackASSIST listings carefully.

Shelton Leadership Center Scholarships

The Shelton Leadership Center awards the following scholarships to NC State University students, made possible by our generous donors.

Herman Hays Family Scholarship Endowment

  • This scholarship will be used to provide merit-based scholarships for incoming first year students in any academic curriculum, with a preference for students from Cumberland County, NC with a commitment to leading with their values.
  • The amount of this scholarship varies from year to year, typically around $2000 – $4000 dollars.

John Lewis Legacy of Courage Scholarship Endowed by the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl

  • This merit-based scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students from Title I schools within the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) system. If no student fits the above criteria in a given semester or year, the scholarship should be awarded in the following order:
  1. Students from any Title I high school in the metro Atlanta area.
  2. Students from Midtown High School (in APS), North Atlanta High School (in APS) or any Title I high school in the state of Georgia.
  3. Any students from a Title I high school in any state.
  • Students should re-apply every year, as all eligible students will be considered whether or not they have been awarded this scholarship previously. 
  • The amount of this scholarship varies from year to year, but is typically over $10,000 per year.

Tim and RJ Peppe Military Leadership Scholars Award

  • This need-based and merit-based scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate cadets/midshipmen, who have completed one semester in any service ROTC program at North Carolina State University, and who demonstrate they have a strong potential to complete all program requirements and commission.
  • Students are nominated for this scholarship by ROTC. Students are not required to apply via PackASSIST. 
  • This scholarship is typically $2000 per year.

Fred Thomas Scholarship Endowment for Continuing Education

  • This merit-based scholarship supports students enrolled in summer sessions or continuing education courses in preparation for their admission to the university. Currently this scholarship is awarded in partnership with the NC State European Center in Prague for Spring Connect students taking classes in Prague. 
  • The NC State European Center shares applications for this scholarship directly to eligible students. Students are not required to apply via PackASSIST. 
  • The scholarship amount varies but is typically around $2000.

The following scholarships are awarded by colleges across NC State, but are affiliated with the Shelton Leadership Center. Awardees will have access to participate in leadership development opportunities through the center.
