The Global Leadership Minor provided a fundamental foundation for being a leader and how to communicate cross-culturally effectively. Along with traveling to three different countries, this time has impacted my perspective on how to live life to the fullest and how I form relationships with others, especially in a cross-cultural or cross-disciplinary situation.

Going into it, I didn’t really know what to expect. I was just thinking its going to be cool. I’m gonna get to meet people and study abroad and experience culture. But it’s a lot more than that. Once you get there and you’re in it, it’s like experiencing and having to grow and face things, making you look at life from a different view and to bring color into other places and it’s important to see that stuff. It helped me a lot. I’ve noticed how much of a person I’ve grown.

The GLM taught me many things, but most importantly it taught me the significance of quality self-reflection, cultural competency, and authenticity. There’s only so much “leadership” you can learn from a textbook; the rest comes from an internal drive to step out of your comfort zone and pursue experiences that help you to grow.
